Golf Jobs - Golf Highland ManagerThe best part of the job is getting to talk golf all day and get paid for it!

Neil Hampton is Manager Of
Golf Highland

Golf Highland is an organisation that works to maximise the benefits of golf to the local communities in the Highlands of Scotland.

What the Job involves
-
Working to the strategy that has been written to develop the golfing experience in the Highlands of Scotland.
This means research into why golfers already come, where they come from, where they played, what they liked, didn't like etc.
All this information gives us a basis on which to run training courses and marketing campaigns. The training courses are for the local people working in golf clubs and accommodation premises so that they can understand what golfers need and be more focussed on providing the right service. We also have courses on environmental awareness and greens committees membership so that everyone can work together to produce the best golf courses.
The marketing involves various different approaches, from producing leaflets and guides to websites to exhibitions and much more. Anything that will raise the awareness of the golf in the area I will get involved in.
The area relies on golf to boost the economy and sustain many jobs so the more people we get to come and play the better.

Best part of the job -
getting to talk golf all day and get paid for it!

Worst part -
stuck inside doing paper work when it is a beautiful sunny day.

Special Skill/Qualities/ Qualifications -
Background in tourism and hospitality, administration experience both in and out of golf, marketing, outgoing personality, public speaking, but most importantly a passion for the game of golf.

If you want my job -
Talk to Local Councils, Tourist Boards and Enterprise Companies to see what they are doing to develop golf in your area. Scotland now has a national strategy for golf and more people will be needed to help implement it. My job came about before this new strategy and my qualifications are in civil engineering but my father is a Professional and I have been involved in top level golf, both as a player and administrator, for a long time. My knowledge of the area and its people also helped.

Special tips or advice -
look to leisure for your career then specialise in golf later if you want, but remember to keep playing yourself!

Favourite player -
Seve Ballesteros, he can play some of the most incredible shots from the most unlikely places and he has a charm that makes you look for his name even now when he is past his prime.
