HOW TO FILL IN YOUR SCORECARD
When Padraig Harrington forgot to sign his scorecard after the first round of the B&H International Open at The Belfry in 2000 he lost the chance to win the £166,599 first prize and move into the top 25 in the world rankings. His error wasn't noticed until the Sunday morning, by which time Padraig was 5 shots clear after setting a new course record of 64 in the third round. The problem was only noticed because The Belfry wanted to frame the scorecards to mark this
achievement. Jamie Spence had signed the card as the marker, Michael Campbell noticed the blank space for 'competitors signature' and signed the card. Padraig, presuming one of the signatures was his, handed in the card. Although making a mistake on your card will hopefully
never cost you £166,000, it can cause you to be disqualified from a competition. The solution is to get use to filling out your scorecard correctly even when playing a practice round. It will soon become a habit and as long as you check the card more closely than Padraig you should never have a problem in a competition.
